Steve Hackett: Genesis Revisited 2014 World Tour

Steve Hackett: Genesis Revisited

Steve Hackett: Genesis Revisited

His latest album basks in the title of ‘Genesis Revisited II’. A follow-up to 1996’s ‘Genesis Revisited’, as the title suggests, it sees the guitarist reinterpreting the golden era of the great band – one in which he was crucially involved – while also remaining true to the original spirit which produced such a remarkable string of timeless songs. This will be a double CD, as well as a quadruple set on vinyl. That’s nearly 150 minutes of music – “It’s a project of Wagnerian proportions!” says Hackett.

“This time around, I’ve tried to satisfy what everyone wants, including myself. Initially, I was thinking of just going for the best songs not featured on the first album. But then people thought I should do those tracks where the guitar was emphasized. So, I’ve done both. I’ve also included four songs, which have Genesis connections, where the song was written originally for the band, or rehearsed by them. For instance, there’s ‘Please Don’t Touch’, which I wrote for Genesis, but eventually ended up recording myself.”

Candace Neal

Candace Neal

When Candace Neal moved from the cow-laden fields of NC to the magical, mouse-eared world of Orlando one year ago, she had no idea her silly little love song would be heard by so many. The homespun, six-foot tall, self-taught singer/ songwriter who spends most of her time doing theatre and freelance graphic design and the frequent Youtube music video, just released her quirky but soulful debut album, “Music From A Can” in October and is now tickled pink to be plunking on the keys all over town. Her songs are playful but profound covering everything from school girl crushes to financial woes to love unreturned. If you’re looking for smoky vocals, driving piano-rock, and lyrics that are as gut-busting as they are heart-wrenching, Candace Neal is your girl.

Euge Groove

Euge Groove

Euge Groove

“Euge Groove — a pseudonym for saxophone journeyman Steve Grove — began playing piano in the second grade and turned to the saxophone at the age of nine or ten. His teacher gave him a classical education on the instrument, which he followed at the University of Miami’s School of Music, where he became interested in jazz. Upon graduation, he initially remained in Miami doing sessions and playing in bands such as Expose, where he can be heard on the group’s 1987 number one single “Seasons Change.” He then moved to Los Angeles and joined Tower of Power, remaining with the group about four years. Following this experience, he freelanced, doing sessions and working in backup bands, his clients including Joe Cocker, Eurythmics, the Gap Band, Huey Lewis & the News, Elton John, Bonnie Raitt, Aaron Neville, Eros Ramazotti, and Richard Marx. His saxophone appeared on Marx’s Top 20 pop and number one AC hit “Keep Coming Back” in 1991. At the end of the ’90s, Grove developed the persona of Euge Groove, a corruption of his real name, and recorded a demo that attracted the attention of various labels. This demo soon landed him with Warner Bros. Records. Euge Groove, his debut album, was released in May 2000. At the time, the saxophonist toured in Tina Turner’s backup band. He followed up with 2002’s Play Date featuring the singles “Slam Dunk” and “Rewind.” In 2004, Grove moved to Narada for the ’70s pop-soul inflected Livin’ Large. Grove stuck with the ’70s vibe for 2005’s Just Feels Right and then incorporated a more gospel approach for 2007’s Born 2 Groove. He moved to Shanachie for 2009’s Sunday Morning. In 2011, Grove returned with his seventh studio effort, the fittingly titled Seven Large on Shanachie.” – William Ruhlmann, AllMusicGuide

The Wood Brothers

The Wood Brothers

The Wood Brothers

Two brothers decide to form a band, adapting the blues, folk and other roots-music sounds they loved as kids into their own evocative sound and twining their voices in the sort of high-lonesome harmony blend for which sibling singers are often renowned. While that’s not a terribly unusual story, the Wood Brothers took a twisty path to their ultimate collaboration. Indeed, they pursued separate projects for some 15 years before joining forces.

You wouldn’t necessarily gather this fact from listening to Smoke Ring Halo (Southern Ground), the duo’s third full-length album – their musical chemistry has never felt more profound. Oliver Wood (guitar, vocals) and Chris Wood (bass, vocals, harmonica) refine their rich, spacious sound on songs like the rousing opener “Mary Anna,” the back-porch-funky “Shoofly Pie,” the waltz-time plaint “Pay Attention,” the elegiac title track, the gospel-inflected “Made It Up the Mountain” and more.

Ashleigh Flynn

Ashleigh Flynn

Ashleigh Flynn’s most recent release, American Dream, is alive with stories about down-and-outers, young and old, all still hopeful, as is Flynn, that they can achieve the American Dream. The emotional depth and stellar storytelling will no doubt continue her trajectory of national acclaim and impressive sales. American Dream has won Flynn the following praise, as well as performance spots on Mountain Stage (NPR’s nationally syndicatedlive music show), opening spots across the US for Todd Snider:
“Her latest release makes it clear that she’s got the natural vocal soulfulness separating the contenders from the pretenders….[Flynn’s] American Dream is true blue Americana.” – PASTE Magazine, May 2008
“Possessing vocals graced with otherworldy clarity, it’s tempting to call Ashleigh Flynn Americana’s answer to Norah Jones. That comparison, however, hardly describes Flynn’s genuinely compelling storytelling.” -Performing Songwriter, July/August 2008
“I haven’t been knocked out by a female songwriter like this since I first encountered a young Patty Griffin or Nanci Griffith.” -Jambase, 2008 High Sierra Review
From Kentucky, Ashleigh Flynn grew up foot stomping along the Ohio River as the steamboats and barges made their way to the muddy Mississippi. An electrifying performer blessed with unbridled charisma, Flynn has released two previous full-length studio efforts, Chokecherry (2002) and Ashleigh Flynn, self-titled (1999), and a live recording Live at Mississippi Studios (2005). The Village Voice regards Ashleigh as “A darling of the NW Americana scene”, writing: “Flynn adds a smoky soulful voice. . . marrying styles such as bluegrass to pop.”
On American Dream, listeners join Flynn in exploring profound questions about the historical and political consequences of manifest destiny. Beguiling and wise, Flynn’s musical poetry muses on the expansive American Dream.

Tommy Emmanuel

Tommy Emmanuel

Tommy Emmanuel

With a career that spans five decades, Australian native Tommy Emmanuel is one of the world’s most respected guitarists. Guitar players and music lovers come to his shows to watch the magic hands of the ‘guitar Wizard of Oz.’ His live shows are known for their humor, passion, infectious joy, a pure love for the music, and his delight in sharing it with the world – one audience at a time.

Tommy has been playing professionally since age 6, when he started playing in his family’s band. His unique style – “finger style” – is akin to playing guitar the way a pianist plays piano, using all ten fingers. Rather than using a whole band for melody, rhythm, bass, and drum parts, Tommy plays all that – at once – and on one guitar. Guitar legend Chet Atkins was one of the first to inspire Emmanuel to try this “finger style.” Atkins himself became one of Emmanuel’s biggest fans, and eventually honored him with the title of “Certified Guitar Player” for his contribution to fingerstyle guitar. It’s a rare distinction shared by only four other people in the world.

2011 has been a busy year for Tommy with two records and a new PBS Special. First there’s the recently released double disc, Little by Little, which features collaborations with Victor Wooten, Doyle Dykes, Dr. John Knowles (CGP), and others. One of Tommy’s most memorial performances was captured on film and released as Tommy Emmanuel And Friends: Live From the Balboa Theatre, which began airing on PBS in June 2011. Tommy’s next offering will be his first ever Christmas album entitled, All I Want For Christmas, which will be released in November 2011.

In all, Emmanuel’s catalogue includes session work with Air Supply, Men at Work, and Michael Jackson, over 20 musical recordings, fourlive performance DVDs, three instructional DVDs, and two PBS specials. His awards include 2011 CMA Global Country Artist of the Year, 2008 and 2010 Best Acoustic Guitarist in Guitar Player Magazine’s Reader’s Choice Awards, 2009 Guitar Legend Award by Guitar Player Magazine, 1990 Best Guitarist by Rolling Stone Magazine, inductee in the Thumbpickers’ Hall of Fame, and he is a two-time Grammy nominee.

Come see why Tommy Emmanuel is considered as, “the Greatest Acoustic Guitarist in the World.”

Bruce Cockburn

With a career that has spanned four decades producing an acclaimed body of work that has sold over 2 million copies worldwide,

Bruce Cockburn continues to be revered by fans and fellow musicians alike as one of the most important songwriters of his

generation. Small Source of Comfort is Cockburn’s first studio album in six years – a rhythmic and highly evocative collection of

14 new tracks inspired by his renowned unusual and diverse muse – recent trips to Afghanistan and ponderings on the

re-incarnation of Richard Nixon, to road trips and unreturned phone calls. The album boasts some of the best musicians

recording today, including violinist Jenny Scheinman, former Wailin Jenny Annabelle Chvostek, and long time collaborators

Gary Craig, Jon Dymond and producer Colin Linden. As both a songwriter and a guitarist, Bruce Cockburn is considered among

the world’s best. The New York Times called him a virtuoso on guitar, while Acoustic Guitar magazine placed him in the

esteemed company of Andr?s Segovia, Bill Frisell and Django Reinhardt.
